SAfm Discussion about SA’s first patient-led cancer registry

South Africa’s only national news and talk radio station SAfm, using the frequency 104-107 across the country, interviewed Living with Cancer’s founder Belinda Wagner on 15 February 2021, at 21h15. Songezo Mabece, who hosts The View Point show which is on air Monday to Thursday between 8pm and 10pm, interviewed Belinda to learn more about the organisation that oversees the country’s first patient-led cancer registry.

Living with Cancer is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that supports individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and who are at various stages of their journey. The organisation works in partnership with various stakeholders within the medical sphere including the Cancer Alliance and the National Cancer Registry.

In the interview, Belinda discusses how the idea to build a support group and community platform that would enable people living with cancer to share their experiences and empower each other along the way came about. And how the partnership with Altron Karabina enabled the building of the platform which includes a customised website and mobile app.

The NGO not only oversees the first patient-led cancer registry in South Africa, it also aims to allow cancer patients to speak up about their cancer and allow them to be part of the solution.

You can help the NGO reach its goal of counting 1 million cancer warriors across South Africa by registering or spreading the word about the initiative. For more information, visit Living with Cancer.
